Ivan Navarro's show entitled Heaven or Las Vegas uses neon, mirrors and the floor plans of 12 of the world's most well known skyscrapers to create the effect of looking up through the bottom of each of the buildings and seeing the guts that make up each building.

The Sky

Ever wonder what the sky might look like at a certain time of day in a certain location?  Here's a good selection, and they're just beautiful.

Carnovsky RGB Exhibition

Carnovsky is a Milan based collective presenting their show entitled "RGB" which showcases three color wallpapers.  Each of these pieces, when either a red, green, or blue light is on, shows a different set of images.

Casey Reas

Casey Reas is an artist, programmer and designer based in LA who works with utilizing rule-based environments to create exciting pieces which, though utilizing the same code, can be different each time.  Exciting collaborations with various installation artists, and now printing 3d shapes based on his work.

Also, if you don't check out The Creators Project from time to time, you're missing out.

Move Your Home to San Francisco, Without Moving

... Or anywhere else for that matter.  Wiimote hacks seem to abound these days, but this one is especially fun.  AND I love the demonstration at about 1:04 into the video.  I just hate that you have to wear a giant necklace to make it work..

Phillips Daylight Window Concept

I shared this with some of you a few years ago, but it keeps coming up in conversation, so I figured I might as well post it again. It really is an awesome piece of technology. A window with which you can use gestures to affect what is displayed on the window. Thoughts on how this works? Is it merely a projector shining through a window? Is the window actually creating semi-opaque images that create shadows on the floor? More likely the first, but still a neat idea. Imagine though, if it actually could create semi-opaque pre-programmed images. We would be able to have patterns in lekos with life-like animated movement.

Touchable Holograms

Japanese scientists have created a touchable hologram system utilizing Wiimotes.  In the past few years there have been a number of hacks involving the Wiimote for 3D visualization, but none have allowed your hands to directly interact with lasers in this way.

Layered Resin is In

I keep coming across all of these artists doing work with resin and/or plexiglass in layers to create the appearance of a single 3d image.  Below is the work of Brooks Salzwedel

Men Hate Purple!

Or at least they don't love it, according to a study by John Hallock, looking at the relationship between gender and color.

Hornets and Bioluminescence

Enough of you have asked for the monthly emails to convert to a blog, or to at least keep a blog record for easier archiving.  So here is the new and improved Light Emitters and Others.  I'll still send out a monthly email, but just as a reminder to check out all of the latest findings.  However, if you choose to follow the blog (via RSS or Google Friend), you'll get updates more often than once a month.  I'll also be working on how to get the previous months on here in chronological order.

I hope you enjoy, and as always, feedback and chiming in is encouraged.

With approximately $70, and enough time on your hands (because we all have loads of that...), build yourself a sweet 8x8x8 LED cube.  Reminiscent of work by Erwin Redl?

Remember when artists started making 'light graffiti'?  Now they're making skeletons and bodies.
